FAQ
What will happen during the initial assessment?
A detailed patient history about symptoms; impairments; medical history; the function of various bodily systems; and goals, will take place.
Francisca will then provide a comprehensive explanation of the physical examination process stressing that consent is an ongoing process that can be withdrawn at any time, so that you, the patient, are always in control.
A thorough physical assessment such as an examination of posture, core muscles and breathing patterns will also take place. With your consent, the assessment will include an external and internal pelvic floor examination.
After the completion of the full initial assessment, Francisca will explain her findings and the rationale behind a personalized treatment plan of care.
What should I bring to the initial assessment?
If you are taking medications. please bring a comprehensive list.
How long are the appointments?
In general, the two first appointments are 60 minutes long each. Subsequent visits are usually 45 minutes in length but this will depend on your treatment plan and the frequency of the visits.
How do I book an appointment?
Appointments are booked online by using the “Book Now” button that appears on the upper right corner on every page of the website. This will open the user-friendly booking page where you can easily choose a day and time that suits your needs. If you encounter any trouble booking or have questions, please do not hesitate to message us through the contact section or call us at (613) 601 5773.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Accepted forms of payment are debit, cheque, cash and e-transfers. Unfortunately, at this time, no credit card payments can be accepted.
Are there cancellations fees?
In order to give other patients a chance to book a canceled time slot in a timely manner it is required that you cancel at least 48 hours prior to your appointment. If you cancel 48 to 24 hours prior to your appointment, you will be charged 50% of the total fee. If you cancel less than 24 hours prior your appointment, you will be charged 100% of the total fee.
Do you treat conditions that are not related to pelvic health?
No, at this moment Francisca is focusing her practice on pelvic health physiotherapy only.
Can I attend my appointment if I am on my period?
Yes. Extra absorption under-pads are used on the assessment/treatment table and, at the end of the appointment, intimate cleaning supplies are provided. However, you may still feel uncomfortable to have an internal assessment/treatment during your period, particularly, if you are experiencing menstrual cramps. If this is the case, you don’t need to cancel as there are other treatment options that can be offered during that appointment.
Is pelvic floor physiotherapy covered by insurance?
Most insurance policies that provide extended health care, will cover physiotherapy services, including pelvic floor physiotherapy. For reimbursement to occur, some insurance policies may require a doctor’s referral prior to your appointment. It is recommended that you contact your insurance company to know the extent and criteria for coverage.
Is a doctor’s referral needed?
Physiotherapists are primary health care professionals; therefore, their services can be accessed directly without the need for a doctor’s referral. However, some insurance companies require a doctor’s referral for reimbursement.
For perinatal care (pre and post-partum), Francisca requires that you bring a doctor’s referral indicating that internal pelvic floor physiotherapy assessment/treatment is safe for you.
How soon after pregnancy should I schedule an appointment?
Generally, it is safer to wait until you are in your second trimester. However, depending on your situation, an appointment could be scheduled during the first phase of pregnancy.
How soon after delivery should I schedule an appointment?
Ideally, it is advised to schedule an appointment after your 6 to 8 weeks postpartum doctor’s check-up.
Do you treat male pelvic health issues?
Unfortunately, not at this time. If you need this service, Francisca could refer you to physiotherapists who are trained to treat male pelvic health issues.
